Wayne's plan

Time flies! We only have two more weeks to the end of leave 3. I am looking back to the past, I am so thankful some to those who help me. Also, I have a big problem and that is my book quiz. Usually, I understand the book, but I don’t know how to show it. However, I will read book many more times. This is my idea. I hope in the future I can solve this problem. Anyway, I need a clear plan to do my work.

Reading reflection

In Many Cities, Rent Is Rising Out of Reach of Middle Class

Right now, lot of big city's rent was too expensive. Nationally, half of all renters are now spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing. This is a bad thing because everyone needs to pay lots of money for other thing. For example, they need pay money for food, children and car payment. They will have too much pressure. Maybe people have too much pressure will affect social security, improve crime and people will be unhappy. Also, I think the government should to control the higher rent. That will help citizen to happy life. The supply of houses is increase because of the high prices but the ability to afford these rents is decreasing. There are a lady devoiced and trying to find apartments in Miami for six months but never get to put out one because of the high costs. 

Proverb

An old saying "The early bird will catch worms" reminds us that if people want to be successful and outstanding, they must plan ahead of time and make their efforts to overcome all the possible difficulties. For example, I was good at English, but I couldn't pass the exam, for I wasn't prepared well before the examination. I had many things to solve at that time. As I met the complex things, I was at a loss. The reason was that I had no plan and involved in many things and didn't study more hard, so I failed. In short, the saying shows us the important of planning, working hard and constantly trying.

Learning Reflection

This week’s class was okay for me because I miss one day of class which supposed to be writing essays in the computer lab. I have learned about how to use adjective clause which tells you how to use which is, that, why, whose, and who. For example, I am going to China, which is a country in Asia. This sentence uses which is a country in Asia to describe China and gives further detail about this object. We also learn about cause and effect essays in class. Cause and effect essay talks about what happen and how it affects other things that happen after that. For example, because I ate the last hamburger, the effect will be that nobody else can eat that hamburger I have eaten. 

Grammar Journal

About this week I feel ok but I have some trouble about subject verb agreement. It has always been a trouble for me because I learn one tense of vocabulary and I use it all the time without changing the tense or anything. It is the word that came to my mind every time when I want to write. I explain it to a friend by using words or other easier words to explain what I mean. They usually understand what I mean when they listen because they don’t have very good grammar either. I use it in paragraphs by writing sentences to explain my example or write my paragraph in general. Sometimes I use he are or she are which are not right because it supposed to be he is or she is. It is hard for me to realize these mistakes until someone else points it out to me to make changes. I think it is hard for someone to grade their own writing because it is the way they write and they think it is right.  

Impact on my life and others

I think I had made a positive difference in my girlfriend’s life. She is Chinese but knows very little about the true Chinese lifestyle and society. I tell her many things about China’s society such as the work condition, how we treat things, our government, food and tradition. Many of the things I have told her was things that she had never thought of. Now she knows how to get along with Chinese people better and why I think differently from her. In my American life I think the most important person is my girlfriend Mia, she gives lot of help to me. Also, she changes my life, when I came to American I was level B and I don’t understand everything. So, I don’t want to study and improve. Sometimes, I was regret came to American. When I want to give up, I met Mia. She encouraged and helped me. She taught me English, and she took me to contact American life. Sometimes, she took me to meet her friends. I must use English so my English was being better.      

Writing Conference

I had one writing conference with my teacher which is Giovanna Alessio. At that conference, my teacher told me that I have good knowledge about how to write an essay but some of my support sentences were repeated over and over again. Some of her advice is that make sure my subject agrees with my verb which is if I use her, then I have to use is instead of are. Also she told me don’t change verb tense in the middle of the sentence. So, if I am writing an sentence in the past tense I cannot use any present tense verb in that sentence because it will be confusing the time I am talking about. I have improved my ability of typing by typing all my essays’ outline at home and my essay in class every Thursday. I also like typing in words I don’t know in class into a Microsoft word to remember them. I have been reading newspaper outside of class to improve my ability of reading. I read the CNN news and the online news about cars in English.

some stereotypes about American people

The first week when I came to America, I found some American was noisy at night. I thought they have a party. I was very angry about those things. I don’t know why they are noisy. Before I come America my dad told me American is quiet and nice, but someone change my opinion. After that, my friends told me this is normal because it was Friday. American love to have a party in Friday. So, right now I can understand why they are noisy. This is the American life style. I think it is very different between China and American. Also, one time I was walking in the school at night, someone drove a car and he sticks his middle finger and say "fuck you boy" to me. I don’t know why and I don’t know this person. I was thinking is this is American conversation style? Maybe this guy just want to be funny, but I think this is a bad thing. Good news is this thing happen just one time. Finally, I want to say most American is friendly and nice. They help me when I needed help.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a big problem. It will affect both people’s study and job. To begin with, plagiarism is using other people’s idea or word as their own writing, such as copy a sentence from a book, an article as well as friends’ article. Then, the result of plagiarism is serious. When people cheat other peoples’ idea for a long time, they will be more and more lazy. When they want to do something, they will not use their own brain to think about the idea. They just want to cheat ideas from other people. For interlink, from my knowledge, when a student is found plagiarizing other people’s article, the first thing is having a conversation with doctor Teague. Also, if it is the student’s first time, the student may get a warning for plagiarism. However, if the student is found more than two or three times of plagiarism, they will repeat the level. If they have a academic warning from school that can affect their future job. When they want to find a job, the leader of company will look at his/her record. When leader find out a academic warning in his/her record, the leader may not hire him/her.

Cultural

When I first arrived in America, first arrived at Greensboro, I felt most all of the building were not very high, this was a surprised thing, because in China almost all of the cities had many high buildings and used different way to make some buildings between China and America. Then I find some buildings used woods to make. But in China we never used woods to make buildings, so I felt surprised about this thing. I think different way to make buildings stand for different meaning. I never changed impression about building, may be another city had some high buildings more than Greensboro, but they were still use different ways to built. I think if all of the countries use same way to make buildings. It is plodding. In my opinion, the wood building could reduce the wind attack. Because Greensboro is a city near the sea and  there are lots of wind attack. so the wood buildings in Greensboro. I learned someting from buildings which is different culture even use different ways to make buildings.   

3 Goals

First, I want to improve my ability of typing. By doing this, I will practice more on typing my essays. I will write more papers and then type it online into my documents.

Second, I want to widen my vocabulary. I will remember more vocabularies and then practice using them into my real life. It will be hard but I can improve my vocabulary by do more reading such as newspapers and novels.

Third, I want to raise my ability of reading. I will read more newspapers and novels to improve my reading. Reading is the first step of learning English. If I do more reading then I can improve my English like others.

About myself

Hi everyone, my name is Wayne. I came from China. I have been U.S for 7 months to go to Interlink. I am so excited that I can study in the U.S. My favorite food is chinese food which is dumpling. I like to make new friends. I love sport, and sometime I like to play soccer. My family member includes my father, mother and two young sisters. I like pet. I have a Cocker Spaniel. It name is Naughty, and it is so cute. This is my introduction. If this term, I got repeat then I might have to leave America and return to my native country, but I am a hardworking student and I trust in myself that I will not get repeat.
